Aston Villa got behind-the-scenes decision ‘bang on’ for FA Cup defeat v Chelsea at Villa Park

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa may have been humbled by Chelsea in the FA Cup fourth-round replay on Wednesday (7 February) but Ty Bracey praised the club for getting their ticket pricing “bang on” for the fixture.

The two Premier League sides played out a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge on 26 January, but the form book went out of the window as Chelsea put in one of their best displays of the season to secure a 3-1 victory.

Consequently, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will face Leeds United at home after they secured a 4-1 victory in their replay against fellow Championship side Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday (6 February).

It might have gone to plan on the pitch for Villa but Bracey did praise the club for their pricing structure for the fixture.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “Villa got the pricing right.

“Villa did well on the pricing for the tickets, they really did. This time around, they got it bang on.

“There was an opportunity there for us to have a push for some silverware this year.”

Aston Villa miss chance to go far in the FA Cup

This was a game where Villa needed to be at their best as, despite their struggles this season, Chelsea have plenty of quality players and the hosts would have been the confident side going into the fixture.

As it was, they underperformed on the night and that coincided with Chelsea putting in arguably their best performance under Pochettino.

It means that supporters who were dreaming of Wembley, and possibly even silverware this season, went home disappointed and the focus now has to be on trying to secure Champions League football.

But, as Bracey pointed out, credit where it is due and the club made sure that at least they could get Villa Park rocking. Sadly the high energy in the stands just was not matched on the pitch.
