Aston Villa: Dan Bardell details plan for Lino Sousa as Fabrizio Romano shares Bodymoor Heath medical update

We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa are looking to loan Lino Sousa back out to a Championship side once he completes his move from Arsenal, according to Dan Bardell.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Wednesday (31 January) that Villa have agreed a permanent deal to sign the 19-year-old left-back from the Gunners.

He added that the England U-19 international, who came through the ranks at West Brom, has completed a medical ahead of his switch to Villa Park before going on loan to Plymouth in the Championship.

Bardell believes Mark Harrison, the Villans’ head of youth development, is likely to have played a role in the deal after the club have fought off interest from Rangers, Galatasaray and Juventus to sign the Portuguese-born defender.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “He’s again just part of that transfer strand that they are looking to get some players in at the moment.

“Mark Harrison, the head of youth development, I think he’s someone he will know. The player has been in the West Brom youth team previously and that’s an avenue where Villa have pulled a lot of players from.

“He’s gone from West Brom to Arsenal and he’s become available, and Villa have snapped him up.

“It sounds like the plan is to send him out on loan immediately to a Championship team if they can, so we’ll see what happens over the next few days.

“Villa have been looking at young fullbacks for a while now, so this is another one that they’ll add to the ranks. But as I say, I think he’ll go out on loan.”
