Aston Villa injury news: Doctor issues worst-case scenario for Lucas Digne
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa.
Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne may be out longer than the end of January if he does face a setback in recovering from a thigh injury.
That’s according to injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar who claims that it could even be a Grade 4 muscular injury which means that the date of his return by 30 January may not be accurate.
He believes that the club will be monitoring his training and will see how he responds to the increased intensity.
Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News: “Best case scenario is a Grade 1 muscular injury and worst case scenario is a Grade 4 muscular injury which will delay his return.
“Considering his return date is potentially January 30th, sounds like he is getting closer to full team training.
“However, setbacks are possible so it’s hard to predict these kinds of things.
“Might be worth keeping an eye on any updates from the club as they’ll be playing it by ear based on how he responds to increased training intensity.“
The France international has been the first choice left-back for Unai Emery this season so the manager will be waiting for him to return.
Digne has made 18 Premier League appearances and has been handed a start whenever he’s been fit this season.

Alex Moreno has stepped up to the plate in the 30-year-old’s absence and it remains to be seen what Emery does when they’re both fit.
The Frenchman is arguably the better attacking option and that may swing things in his favour.
