Aston Villa deal in the making for Jhon Duran to quit Villa Park after what happened on Friday night
Villa News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent over 10 years as a scout at Aston Villa and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent six years on Tottenham’s recruitment team and eight years scouting at Everton…
Bryan King believes Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran could be on the way to Chelsea after he was absent from the squad that drew with the Blues.
The two clubs went head to head at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup on Friday (26 January), with Duran missing that goalless stalemate due to injury, as per Birmingham Live journalist John Townley (25 January).
And King believes a deal for the 20-year-old could be in progress, but it would rely on a big-money exit from Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Villa News, King said: “I think he could be out of the club, I think a deal is in the making. It’s not a long-term injury.
“If he played for Aston Villa against Chelsea, he becomes cup-tied, so he couldn’t play for Chelsea if he went there. I’ve seen it happen before.
“But it’s all relying on whether or not Conor Gallagher moves, or if there is another big-money transfer out of Chelsea.”
Duran has been strongly linked with a Villa Park exit this month, with the Daily Mail reporting on Thursday (25 January) that Chelsea are interested in the striker.
The newspaper added that fellow Premier League club West Ham United have had an offer for the Colombian rebuffed.

Duran has largely played second fiddle to Ollie Watkins this season, with the former featuring for just 659 minutes in all competitions [Transfermarkt].
In other Aston Villa news, one exit-linked Villa man recently shone with an 86% display, Emery will surely be delighted.
