Ty Bracey has agreed with what Paul Merson said about Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz following his form this season.
Writing on the Sportskeeda website on 8 January, the pundit said he would put the Brazilian international in the same bracket as fellow Premier League stars Declan Rice and Rodri after he’s been “ripping it up” at Villa Park during this campaign.
He added that the 25-year-old is an “established campaigner” and tipped him to become a “key player” for Brazil over the coming years.
Bracey believes it’s very important that Villa qualify for the Champions League this season in order to keep the likes of Luiz at the club.
Asked if Merson was right to suggest he’s in the same bracket as Rice and Rodri, speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “Absolutely. He hasn’t really put a foot wrong.
“Obviously, everyone makes mistakes here and there, but in the grand scheme of things, he’s playing the best football of his career.
“There’s going to be eyes on him because he’s good enough to be playing at the top after how he’s been playing.
“It’s very important that we get Champions League football this year.”
