Ex-Aston Villa Scout shares ‘incredible’ Chelsea verdict after Jhon Duran transfer news
Villa News is delighted to welcome aboard our brilliant new columnist Bryan King, the former goalkeeper who spent over 10 years as a scout at Aston Villa and 28 years in total in first-team scouting roles. Bryan also spent six years on Tottenham’s recruitment team and eight years scouting at Everton…
Bryan King is not surprised at the rumours linking Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.
According to The Sun (20 January), the Blues are admirers of the 20-year-old, who has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season.
The Colombian has scored four goals from those 23 appearances, serving as a deputy to leading striker Ollie Watkins.
Speaking to Villa News, King said: “It’s not really surprising, that’s the way of football at the moment. He has done well. Potential is a big thing now for clubs and managers. He’s fresh, he’s done alright when he’s come on. He’s one to watch and one for the future.
“He’s going to cost money, that’s for sure, and Chelsea have got to be careful about what they spend and how they use the money.
“They aren’t scot-free in all of these financial charges, I’m sure something is going to materialise around them before the end of the season. Since Todd Boehly took over, and even before that, the money they have spent is incredible.”
It is only Everton and Nottingham Forest that have been found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules thus far.
But they could perhaps be joined by Chelsea and indeed Manchester City, which may have an impact on their future spending.

Duran has impressed when given the chance by Unai Emery this season, but the young striker looks certain to continue playing second-fiddle to Watkins for the foreseeable future.
In other Aston Villa news, 83% heroics are not enough to save one player, he is destined to exit the club.
