£10million transfer news emerges at Aston Villa with Morgan Rogers update in January
Aston Villa will likely have to raise their bid to £10million if they want to secure a deal for Middlesbrough winger Morgan Rogers in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.
The newspaper reported in its print edition on 23 January [page 48] that Michael Carrick is desperately trying to hang on to his star player, while Villa want him to provide cover on the wing and up top.
This news comes after Villa made a third offer to Boro for his services, and it is said that Unai Emery has encouraged his players to recommend the club to Rogers.
This move looks inevitable
Villa’s determination to land their target has not gone unnoticed, and with Emery now fully involved in the push to bring Rogers to Villa Park, it’s difficult to see this deal not taking place before the January transfer window closes.
When Emery targets a player, he very rarely misses out, as seen in the summer. With a £10million price tag likely to force Boro’s hand, Villa know what they have to do to get this over the line in the coming days.
Rogers, of course, is from the area, having come through the academy ranks at West Brom before his move to Manchester City and eventually Boro, and some of the younger players in this Villa squad will already know him.

Tim Iroegbunam and Rico Richards, for example, will have come through the academy ranks with him over at The Hawthorns, so it could be their intervention and recommendations to their friend that provides the deciding factor as to whether he makes the switch.
In other Aston Villa news, the club have made an approach for a new goalkeeper.
