Aston Villa have cause for concern as fresh Jacob Ramsey injury update emerges following Everton clash

Jacob Ramsey is set for yet another spell on the sidelines at Aston Villa after Unai Emery confirmed he is set for a scan following a hamstring injury which will be a concern to the boss.

The Athletic journalist Jacob Tanswell reported on 14 January, after the 0-0 draw with Everton, that Emery is hoping the injury will not keep Ramsey out for a long period but further details will emerge following the scan.

This news will come as yet another blow to Villa and Ramsey, with the 22-year-old having started just four games so far this season with this the latest of several injury setbacks.

Ramsey would have been thinking the worst of his injury troubles which have blighted his season were finally behind him, having started six consecutive games in Unai Emery’s side, including playing 90 minutes in the FA Cup clash with Middlesbrough on 6 January.

In that clash with Boro, from which Villa ran out 1-0 winners to progress to the fourth round, Ramsey completed three key passes, attempted four dribbles, three crosses and three long balls, where he found the target with 100 per cent of those long passes. [Sofascore]

The defensive side of his game also shone in the cup clash, as he competed in 15 ground duels, winning seven of them, made one clearance, blocked a shot and completed four tackles to break up play in midfield despite his attacking preference.

Across 167 minutes played in the Premier League in clashes against Burnley and Manchester United before the interruption of a cup clash, Ramsey had made two key passes and competed in 13 ground duels, winning three fouls and showing once again why he is so loved at Villa Park.

It could certainly be argued that Villa missed his energy and attacking output as they limped to a 0-0 draw with Everton at Goodison Park, where the visitors dominated possession with 69 per cent of the play, and had 16 shots while failing to find the net. [Sofascore]

Fingers will be crossed at Villa Park that Ramsey isn’t ruled out for any serious period of time with this latest blow.

In other Aston Villa news, a loan star has been recalled from his spell away.
