Exclusive: Aston Villa in hunt to sign Copenhagen wonderkid Roony Bardghji

Aston Villa have shown an interest in FC Copenhagen wonderkid Roony Bardghji, having previously sent scouts to watch the Swedish forward in action, Villa News has been told.

Bardghji has caught the eyes of some of Europe’s elite with his impressive displays in Denmark and the UEFA Champions League.

The 18-year-old has seven goals in the Superliga this season and played three times for Copenhagen in their memorable UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Group Stage campaign.

He scored an 87th-minute winner in the historic 4-3 home victory over Manchester United, which helped the Danish side to qualify from Group B at the expense of the Red Devils.

The Sweden Under-21 international has 11 goals in all competitions this season and Villa News has learned that Unai Emery’s side hold an interest in the youngster.

A host of Premier League sides are chasing Bardghji, with Manchester United and Manchester City having sent scouts to watch the right-winger in action on multiple occasions this season.

Villa News can exclusively reveal that the club have also previously sent scouts to watch Bardghji in action, with the player being likened to Lionel Messi by those who have watched him play.

Competition for a place on the right at Villa Park is fierce, with Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey both proving they can play in that position this season.

Diaby has four goals and six assists so far in his debut Premier League campaign, while Bailey has scored six times and provided five assists in his eight league starts on the right this year.

However, Bardghji has been described to Villa News as a player with a lot of potential and one for the future.

He will be looking to demonstrate that potential once again on Europe’s biggest stage when Copenhagen take on current Champions League holders Manchester City over two legs in February and March.
