Really exciting times ahead after NSWE move at Aston Villa – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.
Dan Plumley has insisted that “really exciting” times are ahead at Aston Villa after V Sports announced a new investment from Atairos.
Aston Villa confirmed the news in a statement on 15 December, with the American company with over $6billion [£4.7billion] in equity capital becoming a partner of V Sports.
The finance expert admitted that the deal was part of a long-term strategy at Aston Villa with NSWE signing off on a “really savvy deal.”

“I think this is part of a bigger picture play here,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“It could then benefit the club in the long run if you look at the trajectory and the longer-term plans.
“Again, we’ve got similar conversations that we’ve spoken about in the past wider with English football and the investment proposition so it’s another example of an American private equity adventure capital firm, ok they are not investing in the club right now but they are investing in the owners and they own the club so it’s obviously connected.

“I think there are benefits all the way around there and it fits the longer-term play of what we’ve seen from private equity, particularly in English football but in the sporting landscape as well.
“It looks, on paper you’ve got to see how these things play out, but it looks like a really savvy deal by the owners of Villa and looking at what they’ve done with that club so far and where they want to go, I think it’s a really interesting proposition.
“I think as a fan when you strip that back, there are some really exciting things that could be coming down the track.”
