Aston Villa can cash in on success with new behind-the-scenes deal

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.

Dan Plumley has insisted that Aston Villa could sign a new kit provider deal worth more than their current one with Castore after the drama of this season.

The Villans are expected to cut their current deal with the manufacturer at the end of this season after complaining over the “wet look” of the shirts [The Telegraph].

The finance expert admitted that the potential of Champions League football at Villa Park opens the door to better deals with bigger names and finances attached.

“This is where the club can wrestle back some control over the kit argument,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“We know that the kit provider traditionally takes the profits from shirt sales besides from the super elite clubs so where the clubs can take some control is they can move kit providers and obviously, that then depends on-pitch success.

If you are Aston Villa at the minute, things are going really well, we may have Champions League qualification if they can sustain performances to the end of the Premier League season.

That then unlocks a new kind of commercial partner from a kit point of view, it’s no disrespect for Castore but if you get to the Champions League there are bigger and better deals on the table, so that’s where Villa will be looking and rightly so.

That’s where the club can take a bit more control over the kit situation by signing a new deal with a bigger brand potentially with more revenue coming into the club off the back of it.”
