Taking injections consistently to ease pain may have long-term consequences, according to Dr Rajpal Brar as he reacts to Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez’s comments.
Speaking to ESPN, the Argentina international revealed that he played the World Cup campaign with an injury.
He even talks about an anaesthetic needle being put into him in order to numb their pain as it became too much to tolerate.
Speaking about his situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:
“Pain management is part of the game at the elite levels, especially when it comes to high-profile games and tournaments.
“Difficult to say if there will be long-term ramifications because that depends on the type of injection, where specifically it was, how many times it’s been taken, etc but that’s always a possibility.“
Martinez was among the standout performers in that Argentina side and his performances at the club level have been remarkable too.
He’s helped Villa become a side that’s remained in the top four and has been an important figure on and off the pitch.
Unai Emery will be hoping that there are no long-term effects on the keeper but there still is the slight possibility with regular treatments like that.
