Aston Villa will not see most of profit despite new saga – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.

Dan Plumley has shared that Castore will still take most of the profit from Aston Villa shirt sales this season despite their long-running kit saga.

The Telegraph reported on 11 December that Castore had delivered new kits to Villa Park after complaints about the “wet look” that players had complained about.

The finance expert admitted that the kit provider will most likely have had to cover those costs, but will probably be able to make it back through shirt sale profits this season.

“Most likely,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“Obviously with the way the situation has played out, defective kit is probably the right way to label it from what we’ve seen.

Castore then has a responsibility to sort that out, the reality on the other side of that as we also know with shirt deals is that the shirt provider takes the majority of the profit from shirt sales so it’s not the club that benefits from that.

They will have little deals in that where they’ll take a small fee but the reality is the shirt providers are taking most of the money so it is then a cost-benefit analysis for Castore in a way, it’s less of a problem for Villa as the deal is already there.

There will have been a cost to bear but with however many shirts they sell, you would probably say they will recoup some of that in time, whenever they are still the kit provider.”
