Aston Villa: Douglas Luiz justifies £100m+ price tag with 100% performances

Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that Aston Villa will ask for a British record transfer fee of over £100million if they are to sell Douglas Luiz, with his recent performances justifying the high price tag.

This has come amid reported interest from title challengers Arsenal and Liverpool [Evening Standard, 6 December], with Luiz helping high-flying Villa to third in the league.

The Brazilian missed the 2-1 win over Brentford due to suspension after an accumulation of yellow cards but has been one of the most consistent performances for Unai Emery’s side so far.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT [17 December], Jacobs reported: “The valuation of Douglas Luiz is effectively a British record transfer, give or take, it would be £100m plus, and even then, they might still turn it down and revisit the situation in the summer.”

His last three appearances came in a Europa Conference League draw with Zrinjski, and Premier League victories against both Arsenal and Manchester City, continuing to make his mark on the division and prove why he is so highly sought-after.

A 100 per cent long-ball accuracy, finding the target with all six of his six attempts, combined with a 100 per cent aerial duel success rate, 117 touches of the ball and five crosses showed how effective his influence can be in the Conference League clash [Sofascore].

In the Premier League, a dominant win against Manchester City saw the Brazilian complete four key passes, creating one big chance, while getting five shots off which saw him hit the woodwork with his attacking influence exemplified.

Against Arsenal, however, Luiz made three clearances, three tackles and an interception, in a conflicting display to the one required against City, showing he can offer a bit of everything in the Premier League.

This will have done no harm to his reputation, proving he can offer whatever it is a club will ask of him, whether it be defensively or going forward, to a world-class level against some of the best teams in Europe. A British record fee is the minimum Villa should be asking for.
