Broadcaster reacts to Aston Villa links to Jeremie Frimpong, Real Madrid also want to sign him

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Ty Bracey believes Aston Villa need to sign a new right-back amid links to Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong.

German sports magazine Kicker reported on 2 October that Villa are interested in signing the Dutch international, who Spanish news outlet Sport claimed Real Madrid were also eyeing a move for on 13 November.

The interested parties received a boost in their pursuit of the 23-year-old when Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed on Twitter on 28 November that the Bundesliga outfit expect him to leave in 2024 as he is “very keen” on a transfer.

Bracey believes it could be a worthwhile signing for the Villans as more depth may be required because the club only currently have one right-back.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I think he’s a bit like Matty Cash in terms of he can go forward a bit more.

“But depth isn’t a bad thing because we’ve only got one right-back.

“You can say that Ezri Konsa can play there, but I think we need Ezri in the centre personally.

“I think it’s probably a position we need to be looking to recruit in.”
