Ian Wright gushes over Aston Villa ace Leon Bailey after Bournemouth clash

Ian Wright was thrilled with the performance of Aston Villa attacker Leon Bailey against Bournemouth and he did enough to earn his spot in the eleven against Manchester City.

The Jamaica international was lively on the right flank against the Cherries and even bagged a goal en route to a 2-2 draw.

There’s no reason why Unai Emery will not include him in the lineup against Pep Guardiola’s side and it will be fascinating to see him coming up against Nathan Ake.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright said (4 December, 14:33), “Leon Bailey, saw him the other day, looked unbelievable.”

Bailey not only was a goal threat, he was also tidy in possession, with a pass accuracy of 84 per cent, per Sofascore.

Even apart from that game, he’s been in incredible form in the Premier League this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 12 games.

Per fbref, he’s outperforming his xG tally by almost twice as he’s bagged four goals with an xG of 2.3.

His killer instinct in front of goal will come in handy against Manchester City as they’re not going to concede too many clear-cut chances.

He’s also averaging 4.71 progressive carries in every game which is better than 81 per cent of the wingers in Europe’s top five leagues.

The 2.81 shots per game is better than 83 per cent of the rest which shows that Emery has a top player on his hands at Villa.

Hopefully, he has another scintillating game against City and Villa can pick up something from their top-four rivals.

In other Aston Villa news, Ian Wright has waxed lyrical over a first-team player and has dubbed him “fantastic” after what he did recently.
