Douglas Luiz offers expected as ‘Critical’ Aston Villa transfer verdict emerges – Finance Guru

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.

Dan Plumley has insisted that there is no “critical” need for Aston Villa to accept big-money offers for Douglas Luiz in January given their recent success.

The Brazilian admitted to Sky Sports on 5 December that transfer links to Arsenal and Liverpool are flattering, but he loves Aston Villa and Unai Emery.

The finance guru admitted that all of this will not stop offers from coming in for Luiz, but believes Villa are in a good position to say no to whatever money comes their way.

“There is no critical need to take the money given the way the club is performing,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“If they are looking at a Champions League push themselves this year, then that is incentive alone to keep the talent they have got and it might mean then, that your on-pitch success dictates the ability to be able to push back in the transfer market.

Of course, that won’t stop offers for him coming in and the club will have to be very strong in that regard, because other clubs will test their resolve if they want to, and we know how that works in English football, we know where the power still lies.

For Villa to be in a position where they can say no, they’re not for sale these players, is a good place to be.

It will be an interesting one to keep an eye on.”
