'Phenomenal' Aston Villa development on cards after £500m NSWE news - Finance Guru
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.
Dan Plumley has insisted it would be a “phenomenal success story” if Aston Villa were to break into the Champions League under the spending of Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris.
The Telegraph put its spotlight on NSWE and Aston Villa on Tuesday [21 November], with around £500million being spent since their arrival, but only £17.5million was spent to create a formidable midfield.
The finance expert hailed the business conducted at Villa Park, with the huge challenge of breaking into top-six of English football properly examined in the modern day.
“They seem to have found some real value, particularly in that midfield area,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“That is the risk and reward in net benefit isn’t it, and there are a couple of things within that.
“One is the level of total spend to even be able to get you close to competing with the big-six in English football so credit to the owners and credit to Villa for really trying to break that mould, and they seem to be having some success at the minute.
“Then, of course, it’s how you spend that money and where that value is and it certainly looks like there are some players who have come into that club that would denote really good value.
“Of course, that doesn’t guarantee anything, they are on an upward trajectory and if they break into the Champions League then that would be a phenomenal success story given the backdrop of English football at the minute and how tough it is to break into that elite.”
