Aston Villa transfer news as 'hell of a lot of money' plus player needed for Douglas Luiz sale - Journalist
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Arsenal would have to offer a hell of a lot of money alongside Emile Smith-Rowe to sign Douglas Luiz as part of a swap deal, according to Dan Bardell.
Football.London reported on 12 November that the Gunners could look to use the 23-year-old midfielder to try and drive the price down for the Brazilian international.
It said Villa boss Unai Emery may be interested in signing the attacking midfield, who the Spaniard handed his debut to during his time at the Emirates, after he’s fallen down the pecking order in North London this season.
Bardell believes the deal is unlikely to happen because he doesn’t expect any of the Villans’ most prized assets to leave Villa Park during the season.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “The player I quite like, so in general I wouldn’t mind the player coming to Villa Park. But if he was coming as part of that deal, I think Arsenal would have to spend a hell of a lot of money to get Douglas Luiz.
“He is a player Villa have been after previously Emile Smith-Rowe when Arsenal were in a much worse place than they are now. He’s an interesting player.
“Arsenal have got so many players and so much talent nowadays that he’s had injuries and kind of fallen down the pecking order within that time.
“I’m just not interested in losing Douglas Luiz at all, especially not during the season. I genuinely don’t think you’ll see a big Villa player leave this season. If they were to leave, it would be in the summer.”
