Aston Villa cause astonishment as pundit loses mind over what he's seen at Villa Park, 'something stupid'

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton cannot believe that he’s seeing Aston Villa so high up in the Premier League standings at this stage of the season.

Sunday’s 3-1 win over Fulham meant that Unai Emery’s side went into the final international break of 2023 in fifth position and just three points shy of first place.

It’s been a superb season for the Villans so far, who are on a terrific run of form in front of the home fans at Villa Park.

Hutton is amazed by the club’s form at B6 with the Villans currently sitting just one point outside of the Champions League qualification spots.

Speaking to Villa News, Hutton said: “It was a decent game.

At home, it was their 13th win in a row, which is quite incredible. Villa Park is an absolute fortress. At the moment, they’re just relentless at home.

They’re very difficult to play against. I know they do give away opportunities because you can see that with the goals that have been scored against them with that high line. But going forward, they always look like they can score a goal and that’s a really good quality to have. In transition, they’re very quick.

Overall, it was a good performance and the manager was happy.

Where they’re sitting in the league at this moment in time is incredible in fifth place, just one point off fourth and three points off top, something stupid like that.

It’s amazing to see them flying this high at the moment.”

In other Aston Villa news, the club has been told to sign a new striker as concerns about Ollie Watkins emerge.
