Douglas Luiz news causes excitement at Aston Villa amid transfer exit speculation
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton is chuffed for Douglas Luiz after the Aston Villa midfielder was called up to the Brazil squad for the upcoming international break.
Luiz, 25, has been in incredible form for the Villans this season, scoring six goals in 17 appearances across all competitions.
The former Manchester City midfielder was last called up for the Brazil team in October 2021 but now, he’s set to be in the squad for World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina later this month.
Hutton admits Luiz has proven him wrong with his displays this season.
“It’s absolutely deserved,” Hutton told Villa News.
“He’s shown that he’s playing at a high level every week and he’s added goals to his game.
“I thought he was a defensive midfielder and that was all he had but it’s not. He bursts forward, he gets the ball into the box, his set-plays are excellent, whether they be free-kicks or corners.
“The big thing has been adding goals to his game.
“He deserves a call-up and for me, it’s the strongest league in the world so if you’re playing at a high level within that league, why wouldn’t you?
“Even though it’s Brazil, why wouldn’t you be in the mentioning for your national team? It’s brilliant for him.”
Fabrizio Romano reported via his Daily Briefing on 23 October that Arsenal are among “many clubs” in the hunt to sign Luiz due to how well he’s playing for the Villans this season.
In other Aston Villa news, a £50million transfer claim has been made about Luiz amid recent speculation.
