Aston Villa will demand ‘high ransom’ after Unai Emery suggestions at Manchester United – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.

Dan Plumley has predicted that Aston Villa would demand a “high ransom” if Manchester United or any other club would come calling for Unai Emery.

It comes after talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein suggested the Spaniard would “100%” move to Old Trafford if offered the chance to take over, something Darren Bent disagreed with.

The finance expert questioned whether Emery would even want to leave Villa Park to walk into the poisoned chalice that is currently Manchester United, with Erik Ten Hag still in charge.

“I would say if you’re Villa, you are charging a fairly high ransom if that situation were to occur,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“To extract him from the club is a challenge within itself because of all of the things we’ve seen with Villa and how positive the movement has been there over the last couple of years.

As well, whether or not he actually wants to go there would be another question to throw into the mix, but you are almost walking into a very poisoned chalice at Manchester United at the minute if that’s the way it played out.

That’s a big call personally, but even from a financial side of things, it’s not going to be easy to extract Emery from Aston Villa, you would imagine because of the strides they have made.

Actually, at the minute, looking at what he’s done there and how high his reputation is at the minute, he’s probably more likely to stay there and build that reputation, it would be a tough one to move.”
