Injury Expert slams 'Irresponsible' Jamie Carragher for verdict on Aston Villa attacker Nicolo Zaniolo
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa...
Jamie Carragher has got it wrong after the comments he made on Aston Villa attacker Nicolo Zaniolo, believes Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that the Italy international could’ve had a brain injury after he went down holding his head against West Ham on 22 October.
Carragher, as quoted by TEAMtalk, said that the game stopping due to potential head injuries should not be taking place anymore.
Speaking about this incident, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:
“The worst case scenario in this case is probably a concussion which is a mild traumatic brain injury.
“What Carragher is saying isn’t reasonable at all and quite irresponsible, in my opinion.
“You cannot mess around with potential head injuries, just too much risk.
“What I feel needs to be done is mandatory concussion testing when a player goes down.“
Brar also called for mandatory concussion testing whenever a player goes down as that ensures their safety not just in the short term but also in the long term.
There is plenty of awareness about CTE and how the long-term effects of doing something as minor as heading the call can have grave consequences.
It remains to be seen if the authorities impose the changes suggested above as it’ll make things safer for everyone.
