Unai Emery thrilled at Aston Villa as behind-the-scenes footage emerges from Bodymoor Heath

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Unai Emery will be delighted to have Alex Moreno back on the training field with the Aston Villa left-back finally closing on a return to fitness, according to Alan Hutton.

Moreno, 30, hasn’t played a single game for Villa this season due to hamstring injuries.

He made the matchday squads against Legia Warsaw and Crystal Palace in September but suffered a setback, meaning he now hasn’t played for the Villans since the draw with Liverpool in May.

Moreno looks to be in contention for a comeback soon, however, with Villa showing a video clip of him on the grass at Bodymoor Heath this week (1 November).

Hutton believes Emery will be encouraged by Moreno’s return and he’s glad to see him back to give Lucas Digne some competition in the left-back role.

Speaking to Villa News, Hutton said: “Emery will absolutely be pleased. He wants options.

You tend to see him make one or two changes when it comes to the defence.

Lucas Digne’s been excellent. He’s been absolutely outstanding in what he gives you going forward. His crosses into the box are brilliant, he likes to make assists and he’s defensively strong as well.

It’s great competition and I think, when you look at the Villa squad right now, that’s what they need.

They needed strength in depth when Emery first came in and I think the squad is now stronger.

It’s only going to make them better so I think Emery will be over the moon to have Moreno back.”
