Douglas Luiz exit message emerges at Aston Villa amid fresh speculation, 'ridiculous'
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton doesn’t believe Douglas Luiz will want to leave Aston Villa any time soon.
Luiz, 25, is in incredible form for the West Midlands club and that has understandably led to him being linked with a move away.
On 29 October, Football Insider reported that Villa are ready to open talks over a new contract with the Brazil international amid interest from Arsenal ahead of the January transfer window.
Hutton feels Luiz will want to pen fresh terms at Villa Park because how well he’s playing is stemming from the confidence that has been given to him by manager Unai Emery.
“Just daft things like he takes the penalty kicks but he goes for goals from corner kicks,” Hutton told Villa News.
“You have to have ridiculous confidence to even try that.
“It just shows you where he’s at. He does everything with a smile on his face and he just looks happy.
“There’s no better place to be when you feel that way within a team. Long may it continue.”
The former Manchester City midfielder has played 15 times in all competitions this season for Aston Villa, scoring six goals in the process.
Despite being a defensive midfielder, he’s scored in every one of Villa’s home Premier League matches this season.
It remains to be seen if that run will stay alive against Luton on Sunday (29 October) as the Bedfordshire side make their way to Villa Park.
In other Aston Villa news, the ball is in this player’s court after a reported behind-the-scenes bust-up with Unai Emery.
