Aston Villa exit fear emerges for Douglas Luiz amid 'incredible' development
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton has been delighted with Douglas Luiz’s form this season but admits Aston Villa fans will be starting to grow fearful of speculation surrounding the midfielder.
Luiz, 25, scored twice on Sunday (22 October) as the Villans won 4-1 against West Ham at Villa Park.
The Brazilian grabbed his fifth and sixth goals of the season in the victory while the former Manchester City defensive midfielder is also yet to fire a blank at home in the Premier League.
Speaking about Luiz’s performance against the Hammers, Hutton paid tribute to the way the South American is playing under Unai Emery but admitted he’ll soon to be linked with a move away from B6.
Hutton told Villa News: “He’s really going from strength to strength. Not only him but the whole team.
“Eleven victories in a row at home just shows you where they’re at this moment time and I think Douglas Luiz is at the heart of it.
“He probably feels that love from the manager because you can see it in his play. The confidence is there, he feels he can do no wrong and he’s scoring goals – he’s scored five goals in four Premier League home games. It’s incredible.
“For somebody who you thought was a bit more defensive, I think we’re actually seeing the best of him now going forward.
“He gives you everything but you know the worst thing for Villa supporters right now is if you’re playing at that standard, the rumours start circulating about where he’s going to be next.
“Hopefully he’s happy with us at the moment, the grass isn’t always greener. He’s a mainstay in that team. He 100 per cent makes them better.”
Luiz has scored six times in 14 appearances across all competitions this season for Aston Villa.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City do not have a buyback clause to re-sign Luiz.
In other Aston Villa news, the ball is in this player’s court after a reported behind-the-scenes bust-up with Unai Emery.
