NSWE hailed as Aston Villa win multi-million green light

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton is thrilled to see Aston Villa receiving the green light to complete a £100million redevelopment of the North Stand at Villa Park.

The Birmingham Mail reported on 29 September that local councillors have given their approval to the plans to increase the capacity of Villa Park, renovate the academy building off Witton Lane and refurbish the former Stumps building.

On 10 October, the Birmingham Mail added that the redevelopment of the stadium and surrounding area will be completed by 2026 with a view to Villa Park hosting matches at Euro 2028 after the UK and Ireland won hosting rights to the tournament in five years’ time.

Villa’s owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have already pumped millions into helping Villa not only re-establish themselves back in the Premier League but also qualify for Europe again.

And Hutton is thrilled to see the duo continuing to fund the West Midlands club as they aim to restore themselves to their former glory.

“It’s brilliant,” Hutton told Villa News. “The stadium is amazing and the fans are amazing, they’ve always been brilliant with me.

With improving the surrounding area, if it brings in money or whatever, this is all good stuff.

It’s an area that can be developed, they’ve got space for it. I know there’s a lot of industry in surrounding areas from years gone by and if that can be redeveloped then go for it.

The owners have got big plans moving forward and this is obviously part of it. It’s all a good idea.”

In other Aston Villa news, Louie Barry could be fighting for his future at Villa Park as his latest deal may be terminated early.
