Jacob Ramsey already living up to ‘top-class’ future after 100% Aston Villa cameo v Brighton
Aston Villa have made a fine start to the season, with Unai Emery’s men currently sitting fifth place in the Premier League table.
They have won five of their seven matches, but their two losses against Newcastle United and Liverpool will have undoubtedly annoyed their manager.
But the Magpies and the Reds are two top sides, and defeating them was always going to be a difficult task, as it will be for a lot of clubs this season.
Villa have undoubtedly moved on from those losses anyway, with their best result of the season so far coming on Saturday (30 September), when they smashed Brighton 6-1.
It was a ruthless performance at Villa Park, but that won’t have been the only really, really pleasing aspect for the man in the dugout.
The game witnessed a goalscoring return for young star Jacob Ramsey, who was handed 33 minutes from the bench as he continues to fully recover from injury.
Unsurprisingly, it was a star cameo from a player that is already one of the most talented in the entire squad, with his manager well aware of this.
“JJ can be a top, top-class player, we can see already what he can do,” said Emery, as quoted by BBC Sport. “If he remains humble, like he is, he can go right to the top.”
Along with his goal against the Seagulls, the 22-year-old completed all nine of his passes (100%) and won his only aerial duel after coming on for Nicolo Zaniolo, as per SofaScore.
Remarkably, in stark contrast, the Villa loanee made just six passes during his 57 minutes on the pitch, completing just two of those.
Ramsey also had the same number of shots on target (one) as the man he replaced, and made one interception compared to Zaniolo’s zero, despite their contrasting number of minutes on the pitch.
In other Aston Villa news, a “clinical” player has sent an international manager a message after his five key pass showing against Brighton.
