Jacob Ramsey return to Unai Emery XI on the cards at Aston Villa
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton has backed Jacob Ramsey to work his way back into the Aston Villa starting line-up after his goalscoring performance against Brighton at the weekend.
Ramsey, 22, scored for the first time this season on Saturday (30 September) as Unai Emery’s side thrashed Brighton 6-1 at Villa Park.
It was Ramsey’s third appearance of the campaign since returning from injury but the Birmingham-born sensation has had to make do with coming off the bench in all of those games.
Hutton believes that Aston Villa’s impressive early season form could count against Ramsey when it comes to Emery naming his starting line-up.
However, if the England Under-21 international continues to play as he did when he came on against Brighton, Hutton feels it won’t be long before he’s back in the first 11.
“We all know he’s an outstanding football and his goal was probably the pick of the bunch,” Hutton told Villa News.
“For him to come on and play really well, he needs to do that.
“He’s come back in and the squad has been settled. There’s only normally one or two changes so can he squeeze his way back in?
“The way to do that is to train hard and when you’re on the pitch, show the manager what you’re capable of.
“That’s exactly what he did against Brighton.
“There could be room for him to come back in but we’ll have to wait and see because it’s going to be difficult.
“He’s got the talent to do so.”
