Dan Bardell moots injury concerns for Aston Villa 'gamechanger' Jacob Ramsey
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Aston Villa fans should temper concerns regarding Jacob Ramsey’s injuries despite his recent stints on the sidelines, according to Dan Bardell.
The 22-year-old proved himself a valuable asset for the Villans by earning match-winning goal contributions in the closing stages of last season against Brighton, Liverpool and Tottenham, which ultimately helped them return to European football. He came back to haunt the Seagulls again on Saturday (30 September), netting his first goal of the season from the bench in Villa’s 6-1 victory.
Villa faced a major setback when Ramsey suffered a foot injury on international duty with England, leaving him out for 10 weeks, as per The Athletic (7 July). He faced yet another back before the Villans League Cup loss to Everton, having not made the squad. With repeat injuries, many grew concerned that the youngster could be facing physical difficulties.
However, Bardell has mooted these claims and suggested this injury hell for Ramsey should be over despite admitting to initial worries regarding his fitness.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Ramsey went down in the Chelsea game and we started to worry that it would be a recurrence or another bad injury.
“But I’m not massively worried, it’s just been an unfortunate period for Ramsey at Villa. I’m glad he’s back because I do think he’s a real game-changer for Villa.
“He’s a very unique player and they’re a much better side with him in it. I’m happy he’s come back and is driving with the ball again.”
