Dan Bardell: Aston Villa can 'beat anyone' at home, 'fast start' and early goal to 'finish off' Crystal Palace

We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa will capitalise on their excellent home form and make a “fast start” against Crystal Palace in reaction to their 3-0 Liverpool defeat, according to Dan Bardell.

Having failed to pass two of the toughest tests early in the season, Newcastle and Liverpool away, the Villans will be eager to climb the table with a convincing win at Villa Park against Crystal Palace after the international break (16 September).

Unai Emery has made very few unforced changes to his starting lineups so far in the Premier League but may look to revive the side after their disappointing performance at Anfield. While Palace certainly pose their own threats across the park, Villa will back themselves to get the three points at home.

Bardell claims that Villa must trust in their stellar home form (Eight consecutive league wins) and put pressure on the Eagles to try and get an early goal to silence any growing doubt.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Palace are a good team under Roy Hodgson, they’ll be in absolutely no danger whatsoever with the summer they’ve had. I think they’ll finish in the top half.

“But I fancy Villa to beat anyone at Villa Park. You’ll see them freshen up a bit, there’ll be a couple of changes, there’ll be a game plan. Emery is very big on getting the crowd on side and having them as part of the game plan.

“I expect a fast start and a reaction from that Liverpool defeat. So often in home games, Villa scores in the first 15 minutes, so that will be the plan. Go at Palace early, try and put them under pressure and try and get an early goal.

“Once we’re one-nil up, I back Villa to see that game on and finish it off.”
