Philippe Coutinho Aston Villa departure ‘no loss’ amid Unai Emery admission – Ty Bracey
We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Phillippe Coutinho’s potential Aston Villa exit will be “no loss” to the club and will be financially beneficial, according to Ty Bracey.
The Brazilian had many suitors over the transfer window, but Fabrizio Romano now reports (6 September) that Qatari side Al Duhail are close to signing him on loan. It is understood that Al-Duhail will cover Coutinho’s wages after he rejected approaches from Besiktas and Real Betis.
Unai Emery himself even admitted the 31-year-old could soon say his goodbyes to Birmingham. As quoted by the Express and Star (5 September), the Villa boss said: “[Coutinho] is close to leaving, but we are waiting to see if the deal is complete or not. Philippe is a very good person and always we have to respect him as a person, firstly.”

Bracey claims that the former Liverpool and Barcelona man’s departure would be “no loss” to the club, suggesting that the financial benefit of losing his significant wage bill and his lack of regular game time make his departure worthwhile.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “If Coutinho was playing every game, then it’s a different story. Ultimately, he’s not playing many minutes and he has a huge wage on the bill.
“If we can get that down or have the wages covered, then it’s no loss, in my opinion.
“If he’s only going to play something like 30 minutes every other game, then he’s really just not worth it. If it makes the records look a little better, then I have no qualms about Coutinho leaving.”
