Matty Cash transformation wows BBC pundit as Aston Villa ace shines amid 'incredible' circumstances

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton is impressed by Matty Cash’s form after the right-back scored twice for Aston Villa in their 3-1 win over Burnley at the weekend.

Cash, 26, grabbed two first-half goals as Unai Emery’s side rose to seventh in the Premier League standings as they reigned supreme at Turf Moor.

Hutton admits Cash wasn’t at his best last season but after a good summer break and pre-season schedule, the Scot is pleased to see the Poland international back in form.

“You don’t necessarily expect him to score two goals,” Hutton told Villa News.

“He does get forward but it’s something you see more and more of with full-backs at Aston Villa.

Look at the Hibs game, Lucas Digne was up so high making assists and they’ve got another full-back coming in on the other side.

It’s obviously something the manager wants and it works for them.

They’ve now got 12 goals in three games, which is incredible after the start they had when they got absolutely battered at Newcastle.

To bounce back in the manner they’ve done is brilliant and Matty Cash goes from strength to strength.

Cash was a little bit in and out last season but he’s been rested and we’re seeing the best of him now.”

Last season, Cash didn’t score a single Premier goal and supplied just one assist in 28 appearances across all competitions.

Ashley Young provided solid competition for Cash at right-back too, with the ex-Nottingham Forest ace also missing a good chunk of the season with a calf injury he sustained on international duty with Poland.

In other Aston Villa news, an imminent multi-million exit from Villa Park has caused uproar.
