Aston Villa target Nuno Tavares must bring ‘hunger and fight’ to disrupt Emery’s starting XI

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares could be a good fit for Aston Villa, but he must come with “the hunger to play and fight” and challenge the established starting lineup, according to Ty Bracey.

Unai Emery is still eyeing up new recruits before the window shuts, with the Daily Mail reporting (20 August) that Aston Villa have opened talks with the Gunners regarding the 23-year-old in a move that differs from Villa’s previous full-back targets.

Villa have looked at older and more experienced players this summer with Tribal Football (24 August) linking Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso to a move while Fabrizio Romano claimed (17 August) the club had agreed personal terms with World Cup winner Marcos Acuna before his untimely injury.

Bracey claims that young Tavares’ goalscoring ability while on loan at Marseille last season makes him a very appealing option for the side, but insists he must have the drive to disrupt Emery’s top picks.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I don’t think we’re going to sign him as a backup to come in willy-nilly. I think all the signings need to have the hunger and fight to play.

“That’s what we need, people to come in and fight for positions. I don’t want us to have a staring eleven that’s dead-set every week. I don’t want us to have a depth of squad where the same players are playing every week.

“It’s a tough one, but scoring six goals from left-back last season isn’t bad going whatsoever. He’s a player that I wouldn’t say no to.”

In other Aston Villa news, Alan Hutton has questioned the club’s decision to sell Cameron Archer to Sheffield United.
