Aston Villa should have sent Cameron Archer on loan again as Sheffield United close in on transfer
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton has insisted that he would have liked Aston Villa to send Cameron Archer out on loan again as he prepares to seal his permanent exit to Sheffield United.
Fabrizio Romano reported on 23 August that the Blades have agreed on a fee of up to £19million to sign Archer, with a buy-back clause as the medical is now booked.
Hutton admitted that it is good to see Aston Villa adding these clauses into deals to sell their younger players, with the opportunities not yet available under Unai Emery.
“I do think he would have struggled at this moment for regular game time,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“You never know what is going to happen with injuries and stuff, that is obviously something that may happen but I like that they are willing to let them go out and get that experience to play games, and then cover themselves with the safety net of buy-back clauses.
“We’re starting to hear this more and more, especially with younger players, I do rate him, I think he’s an excellent player. I just don’t think he is ready to play week in and week out, it had to be the right team for him to go and produce.
“I just would have liked him to go out on loan, with a call-back in January as I still think he has a lot to offer.”
