Lucas Digne expected to quit Aston Villa as Marcos Acuna personal terms agreed
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton believes the signing of Marcos Acuna will mean one of Aston Villa’s current left-backs will be on the way out of Villa Park.
On 17 August, Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that Villa have already agreed personal terms with the 31-year-old Argentina international.
It remains to be seen if a fee has been agreed between Villa and Unai Emery’s former club Sevilla.
Lucas Digne has been linked with a move away from B6 this summer with The Mirror reporting via their print edition on 4 August (page 55) that Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal are keen on him.
Hutton can see a deal being agreed for one of Aston Villa’s left-backs to leave amid interest in Acuna.
“You have to get someone through the door,” Hutton told Villa News.
“You’ve got [Alex] Moreno there and Digne’s there but there have been one or two links about him moving away.
“Pau Torres played there at left-back on occasions too so you’d like to think that if they’re looking at somebody to come in, it’s an upgrade on what you already have or they play a specific way that the manager is looking for.
“You can’t have three left-backs in there, it doesn’t work well with the dynamics.
“If that’s the case and they’re looking at Acuna, you’d think somebody would be leaving.”
While Torres has played at left-back during pre-season, the Spain international is widely expected to replace Tyrone Mings in the left-sided centre-back role after he was stretchered off with a serious injury at Newcastle last week.
Moreno and Digne are the only two out-and-out left-backs in the first-team squad at Villa Park as it stands but Acuna would make it three.
