Unai Emery to axe Leon Bailey in Aston Villa XI v Everton, Pau Torres to replace Tyrone Mings
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton expects Leon Bailey to be dropped by Unai Emery when Aston Villa take on Everton at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
Emery will be forced into at least one change due to Tyrone Mings going off injured in the 5-1 defeat at Newcastle last week.
Hutton expects Pau Torres, who came on for Mings after he was stretchered off at St James’ Park, to earn his full Premier League debut for Villa.
He also sees Bailey being left out of the starting line-up after an underwhelming display in the North-East.
Speaking to Villa News, Hutton said: “Bailey started the game and didn’t quite hit the heights.
“ I think there’s an option for a change there.
“Torres obviously comes in for Mings.
“It will be an interesting one. Emery doesn’t tend to make wholesale changes.
“Obviously with Moussa Diaby coming in, he’s an outstanding player and you’ve got Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn that always play.
“I don’t think there’ll be big changes, I think Emery will be more annoyed by the manner they played because I know he is meticulous in everything he does.
“To make those mistakes over and over, especially defensively when they usually do well, that’s something they’ll have to remedy quickly.
“There’s an expectation there now with Villa and that was a little bit of a humbling. We know Newcastle are a team on the up.”
