Aston Villa reach verbal agreement with Galatasaray to sign Nicolo Zaniolo, medical scheduled - Fabrizio Romano

Aston Villa have reached a verbal agreement with Galatasaray to sign Nicolo Zaniolo on loan with a buy-option of £23m with add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer guru, taking to his personal Twitter account (14 August) shares that the Italian international will undertake a medical at Villa Park on Wednesday if all goes to plan on the final details of the deal, with personal terms already agreed.

The Villans are looking to land a deal for the Italy international following the injury suffered by Emi Buendia, with the club confirming on 10 August that the Argentinian maestro could be out for up to eight months following a knee ligament injury.

Romano tweeted: “Nicoló Zaniolo to Aston Villa, here we go! Verbal agreement in place on €27m total package add-ons included with Galatasaray — loan deal with a buy option clause.

“Understand medical will take place on Wednesday if all goes to plan.

“Personal terms agreed, Zaniolo wanted Villa.”

Emery has got his man

It certainly appears as if Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has got his man after days of negotiations and the Italian international certainly represents yet another marquee acquisition at Villa Park.

It’s incredibly damaging for Villa to lose such a vital player in Buendia with the new campaign kicking off this weekend, and it seems as if Emery has already stumbled across a quality replacement in Zaniolo.

The 24-year-old has endured a difficult past couple of seasons with severe knee injuries but actually enjoyed a brief renaissance last term in Turkey, registering five goals from 10 Super Lig games.

Zaniolo, during his time with Roma, was named the Serie A Young Player of the Year for the 2018-19 campaign and earned his first call-up to the national team in 2018 and was earmarked as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking prospects.

Whether he can reach those exciting levels at Aston Villa again remains to be seen but if Emery is good at anything, it’s reviving the careers of players who have somewhat stalled in their career which suggests Zaniolo is making the right move at this stage in his career.

Aston Villa desperately needed more attacking reinforcements and they’ve just snapped up yet another quality and statement signing.

In other Aston Villa news, one player Unai Emery loves faces arguably the biggest test of his career at Villa Park following a dreadful new development.
