Lucas Digne to be offered through-the-roof wages to quit Aston Villa, decision to be made with family in mind
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Lucas Digne will be offered wages that are “through the roof” to quit Aston Villa for a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
The Mirror reported via their print edition last Friday (4 August, page 55) that “mega-rich” Al-Hilal are interested in signing the 30-year-old left-back, who’s dropped down the pecking order at Villa Park since Unai Emery signed Alex Moreno in January.
The Daily Mail have previously reported this summer (14 July) that Villa are open to offers for the former Everton player, who joined the Villans from Goodison Park in January 2022 for £25million.

Napoli had previously shown an interest in Digne but the Frenchman’s high wages made a deal difficult for the Serie A champions.
However, money doesn’t seem to be an object for Al-Hilal, who have signed Kalidou Koulibay, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Malcom since the start of July.
Hutton can see a deal for Digne happening if the ex-Barcelona left-back wants to take the opportunity to make a lot of money for his family.
Speaking to Villa News about a potential deal, Hutton said: “There are a lot of other players who jumped at that chance so I don’t see why he’d be any different.

“As long as it’s right for him and his family. I don’t know the ins and outs of it, I don’t know what money is being spoken about but I’m sure it’ll be through the roof.
“It looks like he’ll get less game time at Aston Villa at this moment in time so if you read between the lines… Pau Torres has even played there at left-back this pre-season and Alex Moreno is there so it might be an opportunity for him to move on.
“It’s whether he sees himself staying in Europe somewhere or does he fancy a new league out there in Saudi?
“It’s an interesting one and we’ll have to wait and see how it develops.
“Only he can decide if he’s ready for that move or not.”
