Aston Villa transfer news as new bid made for Aaron Ramsey exit

Burnley have increased their offer to £12million to sign Aston Villa midfielder Aaron Ramsey, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper has reported on its website on Monday (7 August) that the 20-year-old attacking midfielder and brother of Villa star Jacob remains a target for Vincent Kompany’s side as they attempt to lure him away from Villa Park.

Ramsey spent last season on loan with both Norwich City and Middlesbrough, impressing in the Championship as he scored eight times in 31 matches between the two clubs and has caught the eye of Kompany as he prepares for life in the Premier League.

Helpful funds

Whether or not Villa are willing to let Ramsey go this summer likely comes down to where the 20-year-old lies in the pecking order at Villa Park this season, with Emery well-stocked in the forward areas for the upcoming campaign.

This summer’s addition of Moussa Diaby alongside the likes of Emi Buendia, Jacob Ramsey and Philippe Coutinho means that the Spanish manager has no shortage of options to pick from this season.

In addition, both Cameron Archer and Jade Philogene have returned from Championship loans and appear to be higher up in Emery’s thinking than Ramsey, meaning Aston Villa have plenty of cover to pocket the £12m for a player that likely wouldn’t feature for them this season.

Although it is never nice to let an academy player depart their boyhood club, especially one who is as obviously talented as Ramsey, Villa need quality as they prepare for a European campaign and the 20-year-old may just be a victim of his club’s success.

In other Aston Villa news, Coutinho still has the skills to star at Villa Park this season despite speculation
