'Laughable' bid made to sign Emi Martinez at Aston Villa as pundit reacts
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton has labelled a bid from Inter Milan for Aston Villa star Emi Martinez as “laughable” as the Villans look to avoid a selling club label.
TyC Sports reported on 25 July that Inter Milan had made an offer of only £12.8million for the Argentine, as they look to replace Andre Onana, who has moved to Manchester United.
Hutton insisted that Villa will need to fend off teams with offers such as these to become a force moving forward with their best players sticking around long-term.
“Whether it’s true or not, there was a very low bid for Martinez as well,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“That was from Inter Milan and was obviously laughable, but these guys you need to keep. You want to keep your best players and then add to it as you want to be a force moving forward.
“You don’t want to be a selling club, so hopefully they can fend off these teams and show these players they want to kick on and move forward.”
This is one of those bids which feels very insulting.
Aston Villa paid £20million to sign Martinez from Arsenal when he was hardly playing in the Premier League, and now he is one of the best in the division and a World Cup winner.
There is no chance that his price has dropped in that time, regardless of him getting older, and if anything, it has surely doubled, with no chance of him leaving Villa Park now.
In other Aston Villa news, the club’s received a kick in the teeth over this £8.5million transfer reveal.
