Wesley does not have future at Aston Villa as broadcaster reacts to transfer news
We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Wesley does not fit the profile of the newly-improved Aston Villa squad and is unlikely to have a future at the club, according to Ty Bracey.
The Brazillian never made an impact at Villa Park and has been shipped off on three loan spells since signing for £22million in 2019 [Sky Sports].
Despite a tough time on the sidelines through injury, he has only managed six goals for Villa across four years and looks set to drop to Championship side Watford, who could sign him on loan as soon as this week [Darren Witcoop].
Bracey has backed the 26-year-old to perform well in the second division, but claims he must move on from the Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “Wesley doesn’t have a future and he definitely doesn’t fit the profile. He’s not going to be doing anything over Ollie Watkins.
“He had the opportunity but got ruled out for a bad injury, which is unfortunate and not his fault.
“But, at the same time, it’s one of those where it just hasn’t worked out for him at Aston Villa. The injury meant he never really had the opportunity to see him.
“I would say that’s the end of the road for him, to be honest.
“He’s just not the profile of striker that we’re looking for. He’s good in the air and he can score goals but he’s not what Emery is looking for at all.
“It was a short-lived career at Villa really. Sometimes that happens in football, it just doesn’t work out. But I genuinely wish the guy luck.
“The Championship is more his level. He and Keenan Davis are a very similar profile, they’re both very strong strikers and I think he’d do well in the Championship.”
In other Aston Villa news, Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell has claimed the “trendsetter” Pep Guardiola could influence Villa’s philosophy next season.
