Aston Villa complete gamechanger transfer as Moussa Diaby signs on, pundit shares verdict

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton has insisted that Aston Villa have a “real star” on their hands after confirming their latest signing Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen.

The French international has arrived at Villa Park in a club-record deal of up to £51.9million and has signed a long-term contract under Unai Emery.

Hutton admitted that you can understand why Aston Villa were so desperate to sign Diaby, with his versatility along the attacking line set to be a real weapon.

“If he shows the promise and talent he has, then they have a real star on their hands,” he exclusively told Villa News when asked if this was a game-changing move.

“I haven’t watched him week in and week out, but what we have to go on and what he can bring to the table, he is very direct, quick, and can score goals, he ticks all of the boxes.

I think this is what Villa have been crying out for, he is versatile and can play a number of different positions, he can play on the left-hand side, play on the right and through the middle.

Technically, he is very good so you can understand why they were desperate to get him in, and these are the types of players where Villa can go to the next level and challenge higher up the league, being consistent in Europe.”
