Sky Sports journalist: Aaron Ramsey set for Aston Villa first-team impact

We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aaron Ramsey is one of the Aston Villa youngsters set for a first-team impact next season while others deemed surplus to requirements may be sold, according to Dan Bardell

Aston Villa’s pre-season squad for their Premier League Summer Series appearance had notably few youngsters, with Ramsey, Jaden Philogene and Kadan Young three of the few selected.

Despite Villa’s growing depth and quality in their squad this summer, many academy players could get their chance to make an impact under Emery when the Premier League season kicks off in August.

Bardell has backed Ramsey to play an important role for Villa next season given their increased fixture load.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Aaron Ramsey will be utilised next season, especially with Tim Iroegbunam not in the squad who must be heading out on loan again.

“The problem is when you’re a teenager you need to go and play games. But you also need to keep some players around in case of injuries.

“Ramsey will be on the bench most weeks and he will get minutes in the cup competitions. He’s had a couple of loans too, the same as Cameron Archer, so there are two now that look like they’ll be integrated into the first team.

“Some will be bought and some will be sold. Emery will be clearing out those that won’t make it into the first team. Some will go on loan as well and I think a couple will stay around the place and be involved in matchday squads and push for the first team. I’m all for it.
