Aston Villa still in hunt to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Moussa Diaby as £51m+ Sky Sports update emerges
Aston Villa are still pushing to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Moussa Diaby and the Germans are braced for another bid, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
According to Plettenberg, taking to his personal Twitter account (18 July), Leverkusen are preparing for more rounds of negotiations with Villa and awaiting a third bid of around £51.5m to have any chance of selling.
Diaby has emerged as a top target for Aston Villa as Unai Emery desperately seeks to bolster his attacking weaponry, and the West Midlands club have already placed two bids (90Min, 17 July), with the second worth €50m (£43m).
Plettenberg tweeted: “Aston Villa is still pushing for Moussa Diaby!
“New offer is around €50m confirmed.
“Al-Nassr is also in the race.
“Leverkusen expects more rounds of negotiations and a third offer from Aston Villa as Bayer 04 still demands around €60m – as reported.”
Get him in
Aston Villa’s ambitions in the current window are certainly lofty and ambitious following the completed captures of Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans and it’s clear the West Midlands side want more.
Emery certainly needs to bolster his attacking ranks this summer, and Diaby could well become the statement and best addition Villa make this window.
Leverkusen’s £51m-plus price demands are understandable given the Frenchman’s flawless qualities and potential to become one of Europe’s best-attacking products if he isn’t already.
Last term, the 24-year-old was in inspired form for Bayer Leverkusen, registering 14 goals and 11 assists from 48 appearances across all competitions, and Diaby is also a master of putting opportunities on a plate for his teammates and successfully performed 143 shot-creating actions in 2022/23, as per FBRef.
The Frenchman is one of Europe’s most productive attacking young commodities, and it is easy to see why Aston Villa remain in the hunt for his signature, despite having two bids turned down already.
This is a signing the Villans must get done as Diaby’s signature could certainly usher in a bright and exciting new era at Villa Park.
