Aston Villa go for the money as backlash emerges - Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist, he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa.

Dan Plumley has insisted that BK8 becoming the sponsor of Aston Villa is the best example ever of a club just taking the best money on the table.

NSWE have signed off on the controversial deal, only two years after Norwich City kicked them out after a similar fan revolt that is now on show at Villa Park.

The finance expert admitted that with the betting ban arriving soon, this is another example of a club saying they need to take a deal due to money reasons.

“I think if there is ever an example of a club just taking the best money offer on the table, this is probably as close as you’re going to get,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“You’ve seen the back story with Norwich with this company, signed them and kicked them out within three days due to the backlash, you’ve seen the same backlash from some Villa Supporters Groups.

Yet, the deal has still been signed and we talk about the betting ban and what is coming down the track, if there is ever an example which consolidates the position of this is the best deal on the table and we need to take it due to money reasons, then this is probably as close as you’re going to get.”

It will be interesting to see what happens over the coming days and weeks if the backlash continues, but at this moment in time, it looks as though it’s business as usual.

There has already been evidence of clubs still accepting betting companies despite the upcoming ban, with the financial rewards potentially too good to turn down.

In other Aston Villa news, the future of this loanee hangs in the balance as contract talks await.
