Sources in Spain share Monchi twist as Aston Villa chiefs jet into Spain for talks
Aston Villa chiefs have boarded flights to Spain as they look to get the appointment of Monchi over the line, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper has reported on its website that the Sevilla transfer chief is in line to take over in a senior strategic role and is Unai Emery’s first choice.
Although there is a £1.7million release clause in his contract, Monchi believes he should be allowed to leave for nothing as a gesture of goodwill.

This is where the deal becomes complicated at Villa Park.
On top of the compensation issues, Monchi is also believed to have a three-month notice period with the La Liga club, something that would need to be waived.
Sources in Spain, however, suggest this could be a power play from the Sevilla chief to earn himself better working conditions at his current club.

Nervous wait.
Emery will be desperate for his chiefs to come back with some positive news and another senior staff appointment for this club as it marches forward.
The Spaniard is effectively running the footballing control of the club after the departure of Christian Purslow at the start of the week, so getting in new faces would certainly help.
This is a new face to the club, but Monchi has worked very well alongside Emery for years of his career so it could be a match made in heaven.
It won’t be straightforward by the looks of it though, with the release clause and potential for Monchi using this for better conditions at Sevilla needing to be ironed out.
With the transfer window now officially open, Youri Tielemans was a great start to the business, but with another key official in place, it could get even better over the next three months.
