Unai Emery makes move as Aston Villa eye Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou

Aston Villa are interested in signing Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, according to Spanish newspaper, AS.

AS report on Monday 5 June, that the 32-year-old could have played his last game for the La Liga side, with “impactful financial offers” in the pipeline.

Tottenham are also understood to be interested. But, Unai Emery is believed to have upped his interest in the Moroccan in recent days.

Impressive

Bounou, without a doubt, would be an impressive signing – but what exactly does this mean for Emi Martinez’s future? There have been murmurings of discontent, particularly after Argentina’s World Cup win. Could the links to Bounou be the Villans gearing up for Martinez’s departure?

It would be a crying shame if Martinez did depart. He’s been magnificent over the course of the past year and a big reason behind Villa’s impressive form after Emery’s arrival. It will be intriguing to see how the Spaniard tackles the transfer window.

Emi Martinez was Aston Villa’s last line of defence as they edged Lille in the penalty shoot-out.

He’s worked wonders since arriving at Villa Park, does he actually need to upset the apple cart too much? We know the board will be supportive. Potentially looking to fine-tune the squad and add depth is the route to go down, instead of making many sweeping changes.

With Conference League football on the agenda, the Villa boss will have to call upon his whole squad to get his side through the 2023/24 campaign. The goalkeeping situation is certainly one to keep an eye on.
