Aston Villa: Dharmesh Sheth shares what he's been told about Ashley Young as verbal transfer offer made

Dharmesh Sheth reports that Ashley Young has offers on the table to join a new club after it was confirmed on Wednesday that he’s leaving Aston Villa.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on 31 May, the Sky Sports News journalist reported that Young, 37, isn’t ready to retire just yet.

It is understood that he has offers from a club in Serie A and also an offer from Qatar.

Sheth said on Twitter: “Been told Ashley Young wants to continue playing and [he] believes he still has at least two years at Premier League level.

“Already concrete offer from Serie A club. Young spent 18 months at Inter Milan from January 2020 – he won the title. Also verbal offer from club in Qatar.”

Villa announced that Young will be leaving Villa Park when his contract expires this summer.

A tweet on the club’s official Twitter account said: “Everyone at Aston Villa would like to sincerely thank Ashley for his service to the club and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.”

Young made 247 appearances across all competitions in two spells at Aston Villa.

He rejoined the West Midlands club in 2021 after being released by Manchester United and this season he played 29 times in the Premier League to help the Villans qualify for the Europa Conference League.

It remains to be seen what is next for the former England international, who played as both a left-back and right-back for Unai Emery and Steven Gerrard this season.

If he believes he has two more years left of playing in the Premier League then it seems more likely he’ll return to Italy rather than follow up on that verbal offer from Qatar.

In other Aston Villa news, Manchester City want to sign this Women’s star from the Villans.
