Aston Villa want Harvey Barnes as Leicester City winger emerges as ‘key’ Unai Emery target

Aston Villa are reportedly showing interest in Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, according to The Daily Mail.

The Mail claim on Wednesday 23 May, that the Foxes now face a battle to keep hold of the 25-year-old, who has emerged as a “key” target for Unai Emery.

It’s understood Barnes is valued at £50million and that West Ham United are also showing interest in the England international.

It’s believed Leicester’s resolve will be tested even if they secure their Premier League survival on the final day of the 2022/23 season.

Astute

This would be an astute piece of business from Christian Purslow and the board. Barnes has endured a tough season but is still more than capable of making an impact at Premier League level. He’s enjoyed some extremely hot form in the past and could well rediscover his best at Villa Park.

Furthermore, he’s at an age where he can still improve. He’s got plenty of years left in his legs and if Villa can negotiate a more reasonable fee, it would be a sensible move.

It promises to be another ambitious summer in the West Midlands with Emery looking to strengthen after his remarkable start to life at Villa Park. He has transformed the outlook and Villa will have their sights firmly fixed on a top-seven finish next season.

Signing Barnes would certainly be a statement of intent from Emery and the board. They surely fancy their chances of beating off West Ham’s interest.

In other Aston Villa news, Emery could get rid of this player who he started at Wolves last week.
